PostSubject: Gearbox/ Clutch Grief! :(   Wed Jun 16 2010, 20:00

As I got home last night a random (not in time) ticking/clicking noise began to occur from the gearbox, the car drove perfectly, the clutch engaged and disengaged ok, the noise occurs when the car is in motion or whilst stood in neutral, when the clutch pedal is depressed the noise goes. Obvious signs are that the Pilot bearing or bushing has gone, the noise though sounds as if one of the teeth from the gears has chipped off and is bouncing around inside the gearbox casing itself.
I stopped using the car immeadiately and bought gearbox oil and topped it up (was rather empty).
Before I spend on a new gearbox is there anyone on here that has heard of or knows of this problem?
Thanks very much
Josh

If its an 020 box, it could be the diff rivets, they have a tendancy to shear in the gearbox, then make there way out at the worst convenience. This does happen on 02a boxes but not as often. (020 box rod shift) (02a box cable shift). Hope this may help.

It's the release bearing maybe? When you raise the clutch there's a rhythmic clatter? Or a clicking sound? When it's depressed it goes... It's a 1.4 so it's the 085 gearbox Josh... I think, if it's the same as mine.
