PostSubject: Anyone on here us Optimax?   Sun Jan 24 2010, 21:30

Well I got into a convo with a mate about Optimax.. telling him it's not worth it etc... basing my argument on heresay.

Then after that I google'd it and read some reviews.. and I had to say that they were all leaning toward the positive side of it.

Then I read a forum thread somewhere about BP Ultima vs Shell Optimax... again, Optimax came out top because it's a higher RON... but interesting thing was, it was posted by a VR6 driver, which got me thinking...

does anyone on here use it and do you really notice the difference? Basically I'm starting to feel inclined to start using it too, lol... there's a Shell garage in Denbigh that I pass all the time.. so I could fill up there instead of Asda next door Neutral

Methinks also, that if I do switch fuels.. I'm gonna have to run as low as possible (not too low, don't want the gunk from the bottom of the tank) and then unplug the battery to reset my ECU to get even more effect from the fuel change... if I'm not mistaken... ?

fully fueld up with 99 ron today... dunno if it's just psychological, but I thought I could already notice the difference, rofl.

I have to use optimax, on my daily mk1 gti. the old k-jet needs 98 ron fuel. have tried cheapo supermarket fuel and get the occasional pinking from engine under heavy load. Not good.

Same. I set-up my timing originally forgetting that it had optimax in, if i use anything else it runs like shit.

I always use V-Power too (bloody expensive now though!!), can't comment if it makes a difference though as I've never put anything else in the car.
