PostSubject: VAG Specialist in North Wales?   Mon Mar 08 2010, 23:49

Does anyone know of any?

See Problem below. Trying to avoid the main dealer if possible and take it to someone who knows what they're talking about.

Quote:
Problems with my Ibiza MK4 TDi

1 - ABS Light Came on when I was on the motorway following a new set of brakes all round

2 - Engine Management Light came on the next day and has remained constant ever since.

3 - Power Steering Light comes up when I first start the car. If I turn the car off then back on it goes away. This light has showed up a few times in the past but is now coming up every time I start the car in the morning.

4 - Driver door central locking will not open with fob if car has been left for a while. I can open it with the key just fine, Once I have unlocked it the fob works just fine for locking and unlocking. Passenger door is unaffected and works perfectly. **ONLY SEEMS TO HAPPEN IF IT HAS RAINED**

Driving is normal, no problems to report here still goes like a rocket.

What I have done

I have taken it to a mechanic who plugged in one of those VAG COM machines. It came up with the front left ABS sensor which has now been changed but the lights remain. I'm now told I'm best off booking it in at a dealer as they think some water has gone in somewhere and is messing with the electrics.

I have stripped the driver door down to look for obvious signs of leaks as this was the first thing to start playing up a few weeks ago but cant see anything alarming.

Any ideas before this turns into an excuse to get a Cupra

if it is a water leak causin it try looking around an above the fuse/relay board wich is above the drivers feet for any signs there, i hav seen one leak ther an cause problems before.

but tbh i dont think itd cause faults like your abs one still sayin one corner, who ever did your brakes could have pulled an damaged the loom at the plug without evn realisin?? all easy nuff to test tho.

wer bouts are you? wouldnt take too long to check things over i dont think an giv you a realistic idea of wots up Very Happy

have a look on the drivers side of the boot, the central locking motor may be in there, pull it out and see if u can get the casing off, water may have got in there,

my mate had a mk5 polo 6n2, and his central locking was fucked, all cuz of tha box!

Sorry Gwyndaf but i have had nothing but trouble from those guys.

I got them to change the chain tensioner on the VR so they did the job for £130, i picked up the car and by the time i got home there was no oil in it.
I took it back to them and they said there was a slight leak coming from the head but they have fixed it! A couple of days later and no oil again.
I took it back to them and they said the head gasket had gone and they wanted £350 to fix it.

I stripped all the gear off with a mate so i could open the valve cover to have a look and remover the upper chain cover, it looked as tho someone had snapped off the additional gasket which goes between the chain covers and then bodged it back up.

Well they didnt tell me that did they, my guess is they messed it up and tried to cover it up but failed.

I took it to PSI tuning and they put a new head gasket on for £250 saving me £100

I will never use Wilsons again.
